A lofty idea snapped up by major DIY retailer
A Sussex-based entrepreneur has come up with a simple, yet effective product to ensure that valuable loft storage space is not lost once regulation insulation is fitted – a product that has already been given the thumbs up from a major high street DIY retailer. With the help of the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS), David Ferguson has designed and introduced an innovative stilt product called ‘Loft Storage Stilts’ to allow regulation insulation to be fitted into roof spaces whilst retaining existing storage areas.

South West Businesses Defying Pessimistic Manufacturing Outlook
South West manufacturers are showing encouraging signs of growth, according to the latest findings of the Manufacturing Advisory Service in the South West (MAS-SW). Almost two-thirds (63 per cent) of respondents to the latest Barometer, conducted quarterly by MAS-SW, reported increased sales in the past six months (April to September 2011).

SMEs to Benefit From New Intellectual Property Rights
A new law was introduced earlier this month to give small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) more encouragement to protect their intellectual property (IP) rights. The Patents County Court (Financial Limits) Order (No.2) 2011 provides a more clear cut definition of which disputes involving trade mark and copyright claims must be heard in the Patents County Court (PCC) and which should go to the High Court.
